Stitching Serenity: Unraveling Fiber Art Wonders

SEASON 1 • EDITION 3

Knit Your Way to Calm: Soothing Stitches for the Frustrated Mind.

Hi , I'm thrilled to connect with you today!

This edition of our newsletter is arriving a couple of days late—my apologies! As I've been eagerly preparing to launch the Beyond the Skein Merch shop, I've hit a few snags with Woocommerce, Divi builder, and WordPress. What a mix, right? Enough was enough, so I turned to my trusty needles.

Knitting has once again proven to be my sanctuary. Picking up my "Butterfly Shawl" W.I.P, crafted with the intriguing German Short Rows technique, I found peace in the rhythm of the stitches and the texture of the yarn. Despite having to redo a section multiple times, the calm focus it brought was invaluable.

It's incredible how needlework always manages to reset my mind, no matter the challenge. How about you? What's your go-to activity for those much-needed pauses?

Eye Candy - YUM:

I stumbled upon these charming brooches on Pinterest and quickly fell down a rabbit hole.

They're the creative work of Odile Gova, a Toronto-based fiber artist who specializes in turning recycled zippers and felt into stunning pieces.

An artist who recycles! YES!

I couldn't resist and ended up cyberstalking her to find her shop. Definitely give her a look!

I recently discovered this delightful little nuthatch by Salley Mavor at Wee Folk Studio, and it's absolutely exquisite! Salley's mastery in fiber art truly brings this tiny creature to life with intricate detail and vibrant textures. Her work is a feast for the eyes—don't miss out on exploring her stunning creations!

Artemis's Top Picks:

Here are my top picks for free patterns and tutorials that I’ve carefully curated just for you.

Locker Hooking?

Have you tried Locker Hooking? After 30 years as a fiberartist, I'm thrilled to discover this technique! It's perfect for using up those small scraps of material and yarn that are too precious to toss. Check out the easy-to-follow guide over at Chicken Scratch NY and enjoy diving into something new!

Crochet Perfect Stripes!

I've been crocheting amigurumi stuffies for some time now and have always fought with colour changes. This technique works!

Knit This Sweet Bunny.

If you're not familiar with Claire Garland, you're in for a treat! Laura's tutorial pairs perfectly with Claire's free pattern. Initially, I was skeptical about how it would turn out, but remembering the Knitters' Creed—"Just trust the pattern"—helped me through. It's easier than it looks, and you're going to love the final product!
